Volkswagen recalls nearly 50,000 Tiguans over engine shutdown risk

Nearly 50,000 examples of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan are being recalled because the engine can shut off while the vehicle is in use, which is the kind of fault that can create a serious safety risk if it happens in moving traffic.
According to a trade report, the recall covers 49,958 cars and has been logged under reference 26V587. The root cause, as identified in the recall, lies with the body control module, which is a central electronic unit that manages a wide range of vehicle functions. A fault in its software is said to be responsible for the unexpected engine cut-outs.
The remedy is a software update to the body control module, carried out free of charge at a Volkswagen dealership. Owners do not need to replace any physical parts, and the update is the kind of workshop job that should not take long to complete, though it will need a dealer visit rather than something an owner can address at home.
If you own a 2025 Tiguan, the practical step is to contact your Volkswagen dealer to find out whether your vehicle is included and to arrange the update. An engine that can cut out without warning is not a fault to leave unattended, so it is worth acting promptly rather than waiting for a formal notification letter to arrive.
